  • Donhwamun Gate: Built in 1412, Donhwamun is the main gate of Changdeokgung and the oldest wooden gate among Seoul’s palaces. Its name, meaning “Gate of Spreading Virtue,” reflects Confucian values and signifies the importance of harmony. The single-story structure with traditional tiled roofs exemplifies the majesty of Joseon royal architecture.
  • Geumcheongyo Bridge: This stone bridge, built in 1411, crosses the small Geumcheon stream. Symbolizing the passage from the earthly world into the royal sanctuary, Geumcheongyo holds significant meaning as an entry point to the palace’s sacred space.
  • Injeongjeon Hall: As Changdeokgung’s main hall, Injeongjeon was where major ceremonies such as the king’s coronation, receptions of foreign envoys, and official state functions were held. The name “Injeong” means “benevolent and just rule,” capturing the philosophy of Joseon’s governance. This hall, with its elaborate design and stone markers for officials’ positions, displays the elegance of royal ceremony.
  • Huijeongdang Hall: Once the king’s living quarters, Huijeongdang served as a workspace for the king's daily duties and informal meetings. Its architecture reflects a blend of official space and personal quarters, adding to the palace's unique charm.
  • Nakseonjae Hall: Built in 1847 by King Heonjong, Nakseonjae served as a private residence for the king and queen. The hall showcases a simpler, more austere style, emphasizing tranquility and scholarly pursuits. During the tour, Nakseonjae offers guests an opportunity to experience traditional tea and desserts, giving a taste of Korean royal tea culture.
  • Buyongji Pond: Located in the rear garden, Buyongji is an elegant pond adorned with a pavilion at its center. The surrounding landscape is beautiful, particularly in summer when lotus flowers bloom. During the moonlight tour, visitors can enjoy a traditional Korean music performance in this tranquil setting.
  • Huwon Forest Path: Known as the “Secret Garden,” Huwon was a retreat for the royal family, designed to harmonize with the natural surroundings. The moonlight tour concludes with a walk through this serene path, providing a unique night experience in nature.
